A CC-17 Globemaster III from 429 Transport Squadron Trenton waits on the flight line in Trapani, Italy, March 22, 2011. The Canadian Forces will use six CF-188 Hornet aircraft to participate in the implementation of the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1973 (2011). This contribution augments support being provided by Her Majesty's Canadian Ship Charlottetown, which is deployed in the Mediterranean Sea with NATO's Standing Naval Maritime Group 1. 425 Tactical Fighter Squadron is an integral part of NORAD and of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). In peacetime, the squadron's aircraft provide continuous surveillance of the East Coast of Canada. In addition, it must be ready for rapid deployment anywhere in the world in support of contingency operations or NATO. The Canadian Forces will contribute six CF-188 Hornet aircraft in support of United Nations Security Council Resolution 1973 (2011), in addition to the support furnished by HMCS Charlottetown, currently conducting presence and surveillance patrols as part of the Standing NATO Reaction Force Maritime Group 1 (SNMG 1) deployed in the Mediterranean. 425 Tactical Fighter Squadron is an integral part of NORAD and of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). CC-177 Globemaster III

A CC-177 Globemaster III arrives at the Trapani-Birgi Airport during Operation Mobile in Trapani, Italy on 2 June 2011. Task Force Libeccio is the Air Component of Operation Mobile, Canadian's contribution to protecting the civilians of Libya as defined in United Nations Security Council Resolution 1973 (2011). Task Force Libeccio is composed of the CP-140 detachment in Sigonella, Italy the CF-18 and CC-150T detachment in Trapani, Italy and the Air Component Command in Poggio, Italy. There are approximately 294 personnel deployed to Italy as part of Task Force Libeccio. In addition to the support furnished by Task Force Libeccio, HMCS Charlottetown is currently conducting presence and surveillance patrols as part of the Standing NATO Reaction Force Maritime Group 1 (SNMG 1) deployed in the Mediterranean.
